Interview with Sara Sillygrrl of The Weird Sisters Circus

This week I interviewed one of my biggest inspirations.

Sarah is an extremely talented aerial yoga, trapeze, hammock, lyra performer, and teacher. Two years ago was her first experience with the silk aerial rope. With enough determination and dedication, Sarah is now one of 3 talented circus performers in The Weird Sisters Circus.

She didn't just wake up an amazing aerial artist. She maintained perusing who she is now while juggling a job, maintaining her own home, running an etsy shop, freelance design, and blogging...then however, she chose to run away with the circus.

About 2 years ago you started aerial yoga. What inspired you to give it a try?

I had just gone through a really bad break-up and was looking for something else to focus my intention on. I thought about a yoga or dance class, but Mandy suggested we try aerial yoga. Lacking any sort of upper body strength or flexibility, I was terrible pretty much the entire first session. But I loved the challenge and feeling the soreness and strength in my body, so I kept going.

Do you plan on mastering any other circus arts?
I've always thought about picking up a sideshow act that I can do sans-lots of heavy, expensive equipment, but I have yet to find time to learn anything new.

What gig was your favorite with The Weird Sisters?
We've done so many that I loved. Silly costumes, synchronized routines, performing in huge shows. Theatre Bizarre and Squared Circle Revue are always really fun to work on and we've performed a couple times with the Pistons, which was a huge exciting production.

Who, or what is your inspiration?
I'm inspired by my friends who are performers, watching circus videos online, and my own Weird Sisters. Anyone who is doing something that looks effortless, but takes immense effort inspires me to get my butt in the air and work harder.

For other aspiring circus performers, what advice would you give to get started?
Sign-up for a class! No buying equipment and watching Youtube videos to teach yourself allowed :) Find a circus school and start training. Work on arm, ab, leg strength and flexibility as often as possible. The more you can get in the air the faster your body will become stronger. And don't get discouraged if you are absolutely terrible on your first day of class. Everyone has to start somewhere!

What if

Some little "what if's", now go ponder....

What if shit grew upside down?

What if you could take an X-ray of the imagination.

What if this was actually a Jackass who stole my skateboard in Target (HA!), and not a pinata?

What if Dr.Seuss didn't feel like writing?

What if you could be this, for just a minute?

What if children never found strange entertainment?

What if artists decided never to push society's limits?

What if humans never found fun within fire?

What if nobody took risks?
What if love really felt like this?

What if Tim Burton never shared his stories?

What if I told you Mood Hoops has amazing customer service?

These are a Few of my Favorite Things

1am walking a half mile in a neighborhood where every other house is a dope house. On a crossroad, intersecting me walks a girl with a boa and flower headband. I told her she looked adorable. She replied "Aww, thanks. I really needed that, just broke up with my boyfriend." and there we were half hour later hanging out with friends. I noticed she had perfect lips. Moist, plump, lively color, and a sort of shine.
She wasn't wearing anything, but told me her secret!
Blistex daily. At the time my lips were cracking on the bottom. 3 days later, healed. I use Blistex everyday, and promise it's the best.

I went from long thick natural red hair, to short, choppy, thick blonde hair. So tell me, what the hella is a fella to do with lack of short hair knowledge? My face frame is cut a bit short leaving the most length in the back. My bangs in the hot summer, don't get me started. I had a black headband I'd use in my hair when wearing a messy bun. Tucked a certain amount of hair behind my ears and tried it on hippie style. Cliche?  That's society's call. I love the look and the feel.
Racer back Ribbed Tanks
$6 at Target, nice long fit, various colors and styles. That's my kinda summer! Love to stack 'em.

Hair Chalk

My hair is light blonde, and they now make small Hair chalking kits
with various colors? What a wonderful coincidence! I've only had pink, but plan to get more colors. Just might be dying my hair (or part of it) a pastel turquoise/teal. Opinions?

Red Lips

Something I can never seem to pull off. I envy those of you who can. I don't understand how girls maintain such lips without a catastrophe of a face by the end of the night. According to Ginger Mandy, to set lipstick sprinkle some sugar onto freshly applied lips. Let it sit for a wee bit, then lick it off. It's said to draw out extra moisture without affecting the color. When you've got chapped lips, or using a cheap quality lipstick, colored Burts Bees works amazing. My personal favorite is Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer because of the tingle it leaves upon your lips after applying.

What are some of your favorite things?

Biography of Barbie

For the non-fiction history of Barbie click here

Barbara Millicent Roberts

Born in the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin on March 9th.
The first child, a blue eye, blonde haired beauty.
At the age of 5, not only did Barbie get a new baby sister Skipper! Her family and her moved into a larger cape cod, where she met her best friend Midge. Inseparable to Mrs.Roberts advantage, as shortly after twins Tutti and Todd were born the two loved helping out.

As time passed, the girls grew into teens. Both attended Willows High School. Luckily enough to have the same classes, teachers found the two inseparable. Great students, grades, and participant of after school clubs. Well, at least Barbie. She tried out and made the cheer squad, attended the Future Models club, and the debate club. Anything she tried out for, she was accepted in. As for her friend Midge, not so much. She enjoyed supporting her best friend though.

George Roberts: Father of Barbie and spouse of Margaret Rawlins Millicent. Attended Wisconsin State for Architecture. Roberts played football for the Badgers, and also active member of the drama club. While working at the malt shop on campus, he spotted his now beautiful wife of many children. Love at first site.
Margaret Rawlins Roberts: Mother of Barbie and spouse of George Roberts. Attended Wisconsin State for fashion design. Where she met her now husband at a local campus malt shop. George was a few years older, and I have a feeling Margaret enjoyed that.
The couple dated for years before marrying at Willows Church. Enjoyed a honeymoon in Hawaii, and moving into a small rancher (designed by George of course).

Barbie's siblings include 4-5 sisters and 1 brother. Skipper (often mistaken as best friend), Stacie, Tutti, Kelly, and Krissy are the ladies. It's possibly Stacie and Tutti are in fact the same person, in regards to similar features and age. Maybe they're twins? Hmm... Then there was Todd. The only poor boy mixed into this family of girls. George helps support the family working as an engineer. Margaret is a homemaker, with the maiden name Rawlins and an older sister Millicent.

Skipper: 10-year-old younger sister of Barbie. A tech guru and budding filmmaker. Out of all the siblings, she's the one who gets lost in thought with the question "Should I do what Barbie does or do the last thing Barbie would do?".

Stacie (A.K.A Tutti)The jock of the family, and twin of brother Todd. Filled with energy, a jock overall. She loves hanging out with friends and her sisters Barbie,Skipper,Chelsea. Don't forget about her pet guinea pig Tutti absolutely adores. As a tomboy, she fits in great with the guys crowd. However, Tutti is skeptical as to why Skipper is obessed with the guys.

Kelly: Of toddler age. Kelly was the baby of the family, until infant Krissy came about. With long blonde hair, taking after her older sister Barbie's features.

Todd: By far the most complicated character to understand. It's still skeptical if he's still considered a relative.

Everybody who knows of Barbie, knows she's madly in love with her boyfriend Ken Carson.

After Barbie and her best friend Midge made the cut for the Cheer squad, two handsome men approached the girls at a football game. Ken Carson
and his best friend Allen Sherwood. The four met up for a date at the Burger Place, where the sparks began to fly. Barbie and Ken were becoming closer and closer, dating for years. Allen and Midge hit it off too, and even got married! Ken was kind but conceded. Owning 52 mirrors, and worshiping Barbie.

In 2004, Barbie allegedly "upset" Ken with her Australian hunk Blaine. It's also said that Ken's thought of Marriage overwhelmed Barbie, creating the break-up of the year. Along with a new relationship. Blaine
is the brother of Barbie's best friend Summer. Charisma and attitude fulfill this surfer. Daredevil at heart, enjoys extreme sports such as skydiving, surfing, and snowboarding. Win his heart with Pizza and chili dogs. When asked in an interview about pets, Blaine replied "No time for pets, dude!" Both Barbie and her new boy toy are a Taurus. As perfect as the new couple may sound, everybody knows you can't last that long with your best friends sibling. Also, Barbie and Ken can't break up for good. Ever. It just can't happen. Ever. However, this isn't the first time Barbie and Ken split.

2006 was the year Barbie and Ken reunited on the set of Toy Story 3
The worlds most well known couple, once again. Everything is okay in life now. Barbie and Ken will live happily ever after. So we think.

Do you think Barbie and Ken will have another split?

Not to be mistaken with the non-Mattell organized break-up.

15 Recent Experiences with Strangers

This keeps me going. Without a simple stranger you won't forget experience occasionally one would possibly go insane. As strangers have influenced my life more than any close friends or family lately.
1. I met an adult lady on her smoke break and talked about how much the American Dream has done a 180°.

2. Also met an awesome girl with pink hair also on a smoke break. We plan to hangout soon.

3. I strolled the street with my hoop and he we shall refer to as my own personal dragon from Mulan had my back. Not one person didn't resist wanting to see me hoop. My performance, practice, and teaching of a forgotten talent brought delight.

4. A stranger said my future stage name should be Harley. Short for Harlequin. Loved it. My grandfather's name was Harlin. I enjoy Harlynn more. Especially after a douche yelled "I always wanted to ride a Harley!" out the passenger window of his buddy's $1000 beater.

5. I announce "Caddy"  when a Cadillac passes. Random fact.  Moving on..

6. I was 26 cents short at 7/11. Found myself between the cashier, and a couple men in line picking pockets.  My home boy the cashier hooked me up.
I felt worth something.

7. I was asked if I do 'girl or boy'. Shortly found out this meant Crack or Heroin.
Nicest Crack dope dealer, not what I would have expected. No, I'm not associating with these people. Never will.

8. About that Crack dealer. After asked if it refers to hard drugs and answered yes, I casually took out my cat can opener and put it on my knuckles for 'brass knuckles ghettofied!'. I rambled about how that's an offer I'll always refuse while doing this. Until I came to a sudden burst of laughter. That face... I scared the shit out of a dope dealer.

9. I met a real life Ryan from Wilfred. Not like Elijah Wood, but the chararastics.

10. I walked around with a few ripped black dudes, there area. Where I'm Harley. The small white hooper chick.

11. I had a gorgeous kind hearted girl and 2 ripped white dudes chase down an ice cream truck for me. I thank them, again.
BTW: Ripped dudes scare me,  as I know I can't win a psychical confrontation.

12. I taught two blocks of people how to hula hoop,  or helped them enjoy the moment again.

13. I ran into a lady who was best friends with the hula hoop championship (60's or 70's?). My gaw dropped. She hula hooped. She loved it. I'm sorry to say her talented friend has passed away.

14. A psychic magician approached my friend and I from results of our auroras. Second time this happened, not at all related to previous one in any way. Neither seeked or would accept money.

15. I hated this girl, while she hated back equally for 5 years. Her close friend added me in Facebook because she's a local hooper wanting to have a 'hoop together'. I then thought what the hell, I have no hate towards this girls friend, maybe I should add her and see if she wants to join (as she also hoops).
We're planning to meet up sometime soon.

It's a small world I suppose.
The little things can create opportunity.
Just don't lose yourself in them. Unless you're successfully happy.
